Daryl Dawson of Kellerhaus wants to help promote Laconia as a year-round destination. Kellerhaus is the oldest candy and ice cream maker in NH starting in 1906. He leads by example keeping his Weirs Beach business open year-round and supporting community events which occur in the “off season” of winter. The Greater Lakes Region Children’s Auction is one of those events, and this year Kellerhaus has signed up to be the Bid Board sponsor. Dawson says it’s the best way to support the many non-profit service organizations that make the Lakes Region a special place to live.
Kellerhaus is known for its hand-made chocolates, candy and ice cream made from original recipes. Additionally, it offers souvenirs, home décor and unique gifts for every season of the year. Dawson is looking to expand the ice cream flavors and offer new topping options to the menu. Kellerhaus makes over 100 types of chocolates and candy, including ribbon candy and candy canes. Customers appreciate the thin, melt-in-your-mouth ribbon candy that Dawson says is challenging to make and requires certain weather conditions to be successful.
Dawson is a past board member of Celebrate Laconia. He helped organize a festival of trees where individuals or businesses could sponsor and decorate a lit Christmas tree in the Laconia parks during the holiday season. The Celebrate Laconia Lights Festival has grown from 50 trees to 150 trees creating a magical Holiday Walk. The festival includes the Santa Shuffle 5K Walk or Run, sponsored by The Downtown Gym, and benefits the Children’s Auction. This year, Celebrate Laconia will partner with the Greater Lakes Region Children’s Auction to increase tree sales benefitting the city and the Children’s Auction beneficiaries.
Dawson feels events like the Children’s Auction and lighting up the downtown at Christmas time makes Laconia a welcoming year-round destination.
